auditions
for musicians of the future 2009
to take place on 9 jan 2009
musicians of the
future was
launched in 2008 by pianist, vocalist, broadcaster and educator karishmeh felfeli-crawford as a performance platform for irish musicians
from diverse backgrounds, with a gala concert taking place at the john
field room, national concert hall, dublin.
following an internationally successful series of lecture-recitals as
part of sarabande - the glenn gould project, artistic director,
educator, broadcaster and critically acclaimed musician karishmeh felfeli-crawford returns to the john field room, national concert hall, to
present dublin's most promising musicians in an
eclectic musical program.
“Her open
attitude to musical performances, so free from pretension, is thoroughly
refreshing - the future of classical music." – The Sunday Times
“The spoken
introduction to the Brahms was so spontaneous, so brilliant that when the music
followed, one couldn’t help but be mesmerised. ” - The Maharashtra
Herald
“She is constantly
full of smart, hip analysis, a real post-modern phenomenon, a 21st
century citizen of the world. “ – The Ottawa Citizen.
“ Her
enthusiasm and wit leaps out at you on the airwaves almost as much as it does
in person.” – The Sunday Tribune
breaking down barriers - removing elitism - promoting musical talent -
encouraging diversity - bringing music to a new audience - removing
preconceptions
auditions for musicians of the future 2009 will take place on 9th january
2009 and selected performers will be informed of the decision by 1st
feb 2009.
genres:
classical,
trad, musical theatre, jazz, electroacoustic
categories: under
16, under 21, adult/amateur. age is reckoned as of 1st january 2009.
previous musical training: since emphasis is on diversity,
applications are invited from conservatoire and non conservatoire students.
emphasis is on the ability of the
performer to
communicate with the audience as opposed to merely being technically
competent (though technical competancy will always be one aspect of the
performer's strenghts).
the intention
of the panel is to pick performers who would most benefit
from the platform, as opposed to seasoned/semi professional or
professional young performers.
more information - the idea
for a platform salon concert at the john field room came from the fact
that apart from prizewinner concerts for competition winners, and
usually conservatoire students, there were few prestigious performance
opportunities for equally talented musicians who were of a high enough
standard to perform at the john field room, national concert hall. the
extremely high standard of performance demonstrated by so many
musicians, irrespective of age, musical background or conservatoire
study, cries out for more such platform concerts, where a diverse
variety of music is presented in a salon concert setting, by extremely
talented and able musicians - both conservatoire and non-conservatoire
students, and an exciting new category for adult/amateur musicians.
while applications are welcome from self-taught musicians, particularly
in the jazz/trad/world genre, attention is drawn to the fact that
participation in the concert is based strictly on the ability at the
audition, and in comparison withother applications, so that a high standard of performance is maintained.
